Evan,
Hola. I thought I would take this opportunity to let you know how much I have enjoyed your podcasts.
I am posting this on Simply Spanish because making a comment here is very convenient. However, I am actually better acquainted with Fancy French--I am currently working my way through the lessons learning to speak French and have been very impressed. I download the lessons and play them daily while I go walking and find that the presentation and content is excellent and the Manesca method seems to be working.
Consequently, I was delighted to see that you recently added some new lessons to Fancy French after some period of hiatus. Hopefully this is just the beginning of new activity on Fancy French--I am eager to see the French lessons continue forward so they will be available when I progress to that level.
I was excited to see you initiate a Spanish podcast site as well. I listened with interest to your introductory exercise--some perspective on the Manesca method seems like a good way to start off another example of the method applied.
For what it is worth, I am already literate in Spanish in a somewhat ungrammatical way. I can easily read "noticias" in Spanish and commonly read popular novels in Spanish, although that is somewhat more daunting because of the increased use of idiom, jargon and regional argot in novel-length literature. I also can understand spoken Spanish with some facility--"noticias" being very clear and understandable since the speakers are professionally trained and little jargon/idiom is used. Hispanic talk shows are more difficult--more jargon/idiom, rapid dialogue and less professional delivery. Telenovelas also more difficult, but becoming easier to understand gradually.
However, even though I live in an area of the USA with a large Hispanic population, I have had virtually no opportunity to speak Spanish and do not have much facility with the spoken language. Therefore, I look forward to your Spanish lessons in the hope that the Manesca method will provide an opportunity to become fluent in spoken Spanish.
I hope I have convinced you that I really appreciate everything you have invested in these language lessons and that I look forward to seeing more quality lessons in the future. I hope the donation I provided will help ensure that you can continue to produce these invaluable language resources.
Thanks again
Reese C Sturdevant
